POLAND

Poland is a historical country in Central-Eastern Europe. They have a fairly stable and good economical background compared to the fact that Poland until 1989 was a hopelessly poor and underdeveloped country. Poland is a member of many European educational boards (and many other EU boards) and is a hopeful future member of the European Union.

The Söderström Foundation already has some endeavours and projects in Poland, for example the “Sommaraktivitet” summer-camp pre-scholarships and certain investigations and researches in the field of sociology and education.

We are planning to open the higher education scholarships (which paves the way for Polish students to Swedish universities) in September 2002.

Currently we finance the researches of several Polish teachers in Sweden, they are participating in exchange courses in public edification for 12 months.

Besides learning about the Swedish public education system and methods they actually lecture their subjects here in English.

Higher Education:

A considerable difficulty lies in the lack of funds for scientific researches (which parenthetically is a most current problem in E. Europe), but the system still works and fundamentally most of the students that come out of Polish universities have a compatible skill and knowledge.
